Students with Modified Assessment Provisions (exam completion time and supervised time breaks)

Contents

Overview

Students with Modified Assessment Provision (MAP) are most of the time entitled to additional time to complete the exams in Moodle. They also might have supervised time breaks on top of this time. For example, it might be that a student got:

  • 20 minutes additional time per hour to complete the quiz, and
  • 10 minutes supervised time breaks per hour.

As a result, for a 2 hours (120 minutes) exam, the student will get 40 minutes extra time to complete the exam and a 10-minute break within each hour window which adds up to 180 minutes (3 hours) which you will be able to see in Moodle.

As such, the timer for these students on the module (DLE) page will include both, regardless of the fact whether they are going to take the supervised time breaks or wish to progress with the quiz without breaks. This is due to the fact that live quizzes cannot be adjusted in Moodle.

As a result, if a student decides to take a break, they can just step away from the machine and the exam timer will continue to count down. On the other side, if the student does not wish to take the supervised time breaks they are allowed to, you as the invigilator will need to manually inform them of their finish time as the timer cannot be changed during the exam itself. In this case, you will need to exclude the break time from the timer.
