Why it matters

  • Content with usability, accessibility and quality in mind improves the student experience. Allowing students to have content that adaptive technologies can read in return reduces barriers and increases learning opportunities.

A seizure is a sudden charge of electrical activity in the brain. Seizures can be triggered by flashing or flickering lights, as well as certain patterns like stripes or checks. They can be dangerous to some students and in some cases life-threatening.

Sometimes gifs that can course seizures may be hidden in SCORM packages on Moodle and they can be missed. These gifs will show in the Ally report area and not with a dial on the SCORM package.

For health and safety, it is always best to remove this type of content.

Click Remove Now. The gif will be removed from the SCORM package.

An example of gifs will be something like the partial images below but move.
The photosensitive epilepsy web page can give more information. ”Patterns are more likely to be a trigger if they are changing direction or flashing, rather than if they are still or moving slowly in one direction.”
