Overview
Zoom allows you to share videos on your screen, however this can be quite a bandwidth intensive operation and might not always provide the highest level of quality. Wherever possible, we suggest sharing them prior to the lecture for pre-watching, using resources, such as Youtube, Vimeo, BoB, Panopto and so on.
However, if you are going to share any video during your Zoom meeting, it is important that you choose the settings to support it. This can be done in two ways:
- When you share your window, remember to click the checkbox: ‘Optimize Screen Sharing for Video Clip’ and, if appropriate, ‘Share computer sound’.
- If you have already shared your screen, click in the ‘Share’ window ribbon, select ‘More’ and then ‘Optimize Screen Sharing for Video Clip’ and if appropriate, ‘Share computer sound’.
For more information about the process, please read the following Zoom help material.
If the video quality would be a problem, then we recommend giving your students a URL link to the video resource, and have them watch it outside of Zoom and then return to the meeting, once they have completed watching it.
Please also do not forget copyright. In many cases, it is still illegal to show or stream video material without permission. If you are not sure, please ask an Information Specialist within the Library Services.
