This can often be due to both students using the same source text, and not quoting or referencing it correctly. This can cause Turnitin to see it as a match. The first thing to do in issues like this is to load up each student’s originality report to see if there is any obvious cause for a match.
If you are concerned that it might be more than a simple matching of references etc. you will see an option to request to see the original student document: If it is an external student, a request will be sent to that student’s institution. If it is an internal student, the request will be received by our institution, which then has the option to release the original document.
