What is a Moodle Workshop?
Moodle ‘Workshop’ can be used for a peer review assessment activity, where students can submit their work, which then can be assessed and graded by their peers and/or by themselves on a grading scale that you specify. You can always rewrite the grades if you feel like they were not fairly graded.
In this article, we will provide an introduction to the ‘Workshop’ activity inside Moodle.
What stages does a Moodle Workshop have?
Moodle ‘Workshop’ has 5 different stages which are the followings:
- ‘Setup phase’ – in this phase, you would need to set up the activity, going through each setting. You would also need to provide instructions for the students for their submissions, and then later on, for the assessment period. You should also include here the criteria you would like students to use to review their peers.
- ‘Submission phase’ – in this phase, the students would submit their work. Or this can also just be their name if the workshop would be based on a project that was running in the past, outside of the DLE. Once the submissions have been completed, you would then need to allocate the students which can be random or manual allocation.
- ‘Assessment phase’ – in this phase, the students would review their peers based on the criteria that you have clarified in the ‘Setup phase’.
- ‘Grading evaluation phase’ – in this phase, you would need to calculate the final grade and confirm the grades that the students have given to each other. There are different formulas that you can use depending on how flexible you would like to be. You would also need to provide a conclusion for the whole activity which has to be set up in its settings.
- ‘Closed’ – in this phase, you would close the activity completely.
