How can I use Turnitin as a member of staff or a researcher? In this article, we will show you how to use Turnitin as a member of staff or a researcher.
What is Turnitin and what does it do? Turnitin is the leading originality checking and plagiarism prevention service used by millions of students and faculty, and thousands of institutions worldwide.
How long does it take for a Turnitin report to be generated? The first originality report is usually created within 15 minutes of submission, however it may take up to 24 hours during peak times, such as the middle or the end of semesters, when a large number of papers are being submitted to Turnitin.
How do I provide students with access to Turnitin? Turnitin is enabled by default when you create an assignment through the DLE. It can be disabled by selecting ‘No’ for the ‘enable Turnitin’ option in the eSubmission settings under the section ‘Turnitin Originality Checking’.
How many files can be submitted? The number of files requested via the assignment function in the DLE sets the limit for each eSubmission. Academics and Phd students can upload unlimited documents via their own specially created course maintained by Digital Education.
What is the maximum file size I can submit? The maximum file size is 40MB, (the limit was previously 20MB). Files that are password protected, encrypted, hidden, system files or read-only files cannot be uploaded or submitted to Turnitin.
What file types will Turnitin process? Both the Turnitin integration on the DLE and the Turnitin.com website will accept the following formats: Microsoft Word (.doc), Plain text (.txt), Adobe Acrobat PDF (.pdf), Rich Text Format (.rtf), PostScript (.ps), WordPerfect (.wpd), HTML (.html, htm)
Where can students access help and guidance? Student support can be found on the Student eSubmission DLE site and on the Turnitin website.
What does the % on the report mean? The percentage score is an indication of the amount of the work that has been ‘matched’ with the sources that Turnitin has searched. A high score indicates a high degree of match; a low score, a low degree of match. A high score does not automatically mean that the work has been plagiarized.
