If your course has less than 100, you may not see this message. Please note, the grade number is not equivalent to the participant/student number. For example, you may have 25 students and 10 assessments in which case, you may have more than 100 grades.

This message indicates that grades may need to be recalculated in the ‘Grade’ menu due to the fact that a new activity has been added to the course which also supports grading. Please note, this is an expected behaviour and will not have impact on existing grades – it will not remove or update them.

Moodle constantly tries to improve its background processes. Whereas previously the activity creation and the regrading process occurred at the same time, with the newest versions, these two background actions are now separated. The reason for this is with large courses (with over 100 grades), when these two background actions were completed at the same time, it took a significant amount of time on some occasions resulting in time-out which then led to the activity creation failure.

As such, going forward:

If your course contains less than 100 grades, these two background actions will be completed at the same time (as it used to be), and so the message will not be displayed for you.

If your course contains more than 100 grades, these two background actions will be completed after each other, and so the recalculation message will be displayed with a progress bar to indicate the time remaining for the process to be completed. Once it is completed, you can click on the ‘Continue’ button.

In this article, we will explain the meaning behind the message ‘Recalculating grades’ in Moodle.

[27
159
post-7890","ht_kb","type-ht_kb","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","ht_kb_category-moodle","ht_kb_tag-grades
["GET
