How to set up a Group Choice activity in a Moodle course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
To add a \u2018Group Choice\u2019 activity to your course, please follow the steps below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Sign in to your Moodle account and select the course where you would like to add the \u2018Group Choice\u2019 activity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Click on the \u2018Edit mode\u2019 button and then select a section where you would like it to be located.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

- You will be directed to the settings of the activity where you can change the following things.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
General<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
In the \u2018General\u2019 section, you can give a useful name and description to the activity. You can also decide whether you would like the description to be shown on the course page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure>\n\n\n\nMiscellaneous settings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
In the ‘Miscellaneous settings’ you can decide:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
- \n
- Whether students are allowed to enroll into multiple groups<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- when you would like to show the results to the students. This can be either; to show the results to students after they answer, show results to students only after the choice is closed, always show results to students or not to publish the results to students;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- whether the results should stay anonymous or the names of the students would be displayed as well;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Whether they can update their choice;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- whether the column for the unanswered questions should be displayed;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- whether the responses from \u2018expired\u2019\/\u2019suspended\u2019 students should be visible; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Limited the number of responses allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- General limitation will limit the amount of participants in each group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

Within this section you can specify which groups participants can be allocated to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- The list on the left displays all ‘Available Groups’ and groupings. To add one or more groups, select these from the ‘Available Groups’ list and select ‘Add Group’. The selected group(s) will display on the ‘Selected Groups’ list on the right.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

- If a limit for the number of students in each group has been set (under ‘General limitation’ in the ‘Miscellaneous settings’), the limit will be displayed between brackets next to the group under Selected Groups.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- If ‘Limit the number of responses allowed’ is set to Enable, a limit for each individual group can be set by selecting the Group name in the Selected Groups column and entering the maximum number of participants in that group in the ‘Limit for Group: input field’.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

In the \u2018Restrict answering to this time period\u2019 section, you can decide to restricting the group choice activity to a limited time period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure>\n\n\n\nCommon module settings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

- In the \u2018Common module settings\u2019 section, you can decide whether you would like the activity to be shown to the students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- The \u2018Link to UNIT-e\u2019 setting refers to transferring the released grades to the student record system (UNIT-e), therefore, this option has to be turned off (left on default) as this activity is not part of a summative assessment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- By default, Moodle detects a user\u2019s language from their browser setting.\u00a0The \u2018Force language\u2019 can be used if you want to force a language instead.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- The \u2018Group mode\u2019 can be useful for you if you would like to\u00a0allocate the students to different lecturers<\/a>\u00a0for the checklist.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Please keep in mind that in this case, we recommend using the \u2018Separate group\u2019 option from the drop-down list<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

In the \u2018Restrict access\u2019 section, you can add restrictions in terms of accessing the checklist as a student which can be based on date, grade, group, grouping, or user profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure>\n\n\n\nHow to view the responses of the Group Choice activity in your Moodle course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
After you have clicked \u2018Save and return to course\u2019 or \u2018Save and display\u2019 you will be able to view the \u2018Group Choices\u2019 activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You can view student responses by clicking on the \u2018Responses\u2019 in the secondary menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure>\n\n\n\nThis will then open up a table on a new page where you could see the number of the responses, and the student responses based on the provided group options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You can always overwrite their selections by using the drop-down list where it says \u2018Choose an action\u2019, or download the table for example, as an Excel spreadsheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
