Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

By default, when a course is created by TIS, the requester will be enrolled as a Teacher. They can then delegate access to others as required. Please see The roles section below for more detail on the role types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note, students and Module\/Programme Leaders cannot be manually enrolled on any DLE course. These enrolments take place via the Student Record System (SRS), managed by the Faculty\/School offices.

As such:<\/strong>
If a student is missing from the participant list, you need to get in touch with the Office to request their enrolment via the SRS. Digital Education cannot action this. Once the student is correctly enrolled on the SRS, by the next day their enrolment will be visible in the DLE (as these updates take place overnight). Please do not manually enrol students<\/strong> on the DLE course as any role that can be used for their enrolment (e.g. \u2018Non-editing Teacher\u2019) provides higher permissions than what students should be able to access, resulting in potential data breaches.

If you are the Module\/programme Leader, please get in touch with the Office to request the enrolment via SRS; any change is then reflected in the DLE within 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

External Examiners access to Module Boxes<\/a> in the DLE requires them to have a temporary UoP account. If you cannot enrol them as they do not show up as a suggestion, that might be in relation to their UoP account setup. For support, please contact the main IT Service Desk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adding a member of staff<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To add a staff member to your course page, please follow the steps below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Navigate to the DLE course page on which you wish to add a staff member.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. When you are on that page, please select \u2018Participants\u2019 menu from the secondary navigation bar.

    1. You will be able to access the list of users currently enrolled on the course. To manually enrol a new staff member, please click on the \u2018Enrol users\u2019 button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      1. In the search box, next to the \u2018Select users\u2019 setting, you can enter the name of the colleague. You can repeat this to add multiple colleagues at the same time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        1. Once all relevant colleagues are selected, please assign the appropriate permissions by selecting the relevant role in the drop-down list. There are overall 4 roles available, such as:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          • External Examiner<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Non-editing teacher<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Forum Moderator<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            1. Once the role is selected, please click on the \u2018Enrol users\u2019 button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

              The roles<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

              Teacher<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

              \u2018Teachers\u2019 can do almost anything within a course, including adding or changing the activities and grading students. By default, Teachers can also assign a \u2019Non-editing Teacher\u2019 role to other users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              By default, users are not assigned the role of \u2018Teacher\u2019 throughout the site, but are only assigned (enrolled) as a \u2018Teacher\u2019 to a single course\/class at a time. The same applies to students. Teachers can only teach in the courses they have been enrolled in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              External examiner<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

              \u2018External Examiner\u2019 is based on a \u2018Non-editing Teacher\u2019 role (as below), but with an additional permission that means they can see the \u2018Module Box\u2019 block on any Moodle course they are added to (the standard \u2018Non-editing Teacher\u2019 role cannot do this).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Non-editing teacher<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

              A \u2018Non-editing Teacher\u2019 is able within a course to view and grade students\u2019 work, but may not alter or delete any of the activities or resources. This role might typically be given to a classroom assistant for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Forum moderator<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

              \u2018Forum Moderators\u2019 have elevated permissions just within a forum. They can delete\/approve posts, which students are unable to do, so this is sometimes a role given to students as it does not allow any extra permissions within the Moodle site as a whole, but lets them do more in a forum activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Adding students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

              Students are automatically enrolled onto courses from the Student Record System (SRS). If a student enrolment is missing or incorrect, this needs to be corrected in SRS.
