{"id":4592,"date":"2022-12-09T12:45:06","date_gmt":"2022-12-09T11:45:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digi-ed.uk\/support\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=4592"},"modified":"2025-06-03T15:57:41","modified_gmt":"2025-06-03T14:57:41","slug":"how-to-export-questions-from-your-question-bank","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/digi-ed.uk\/support\/article\/how-to-export-questions-from-your-question-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"How to export questions from your Question bank?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Moodle supports various types of file formats (such as .txt, .doc, or .xml) that can be used for exporting questions from your <a href=\"https:\/\/digi-ed.uk\/support\/article\/what-is-the-question-bank-in-a-moodle-course\/\">Question bank<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note, you can store your questions for an unlimited period of time in your DLE and use them for several <a href=\"https:\/\/digi-ed.uk\/support\/article\/quiz-activity-setting-up-a-timed-assessment-in-class-test\/\">in-class tests\/formal exams<\/a>. You can also <a href=\"https:\/\/digi-ed.uk\/support\/article\/how-do-i-rollover-content-from-another-course\/\">roll them over<\/a> to another DLE page, for example, if you would like to re-use them the next academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-info\">Additionally, you can roll them over to Inspera in case your module\u2019s exam will run in the new digital exam system. To do this, you will need to export your questions from the DLE using the \u2018Moodle XML\u2019 file format (please see below) and then you can <a href=\"https:\/\/support.inspera.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360051649971-QTI-conversion-from-Canvas-and-Moodle\">import them to Inspera<\/a>. For a smooth transition, before exporting, please ensure:<br><br>Your exported file uses the \u2018Moodle XML format\u2019 and does not exceed 50 MB.<br><br>Question titles (e.g Q1, Q2, etc) and the exported file(s) names are below 400 characters.<br><br>Images need to be manually re-uploaded (as they do not transfer across).<br>Unsupported question types will be ignored by Inspera (those will need to be re-created)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, there might be occasions when you would like to export your questions from Moodle to your machine:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>as a printed-out version has to be provided for your students for their exam\/in-class test,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>would like to moderate them, or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>share them with the External Examiners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-info\">Please note, you cannot export your questions directly from the \u2018Quiz\u2019 activity, but only from your Question bank.
