{"id":4515,"date":"2022-12-01T16:38:32","date_gmt":"2022-12-01T15:38:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digi-ed.uk\/support\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=4515"},"modified":"2022-12-01T16:38:33","modified_gmt":"2022-12-01T15:38:33","slug":"what-file-types-can-be-submitted","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/digi-ed.uk\/support\/article\/what-file-types-can-be-submitted\/","title":{"rendered":"What file types can be submitted?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The following files types are supported:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Microsoft Word\u00ae (.doc\/.docx)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>OpenOffice Text (.odt)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>WordPerfect\u00ae &nbsp;(.wpd)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PostScript (.ps\/.eps)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HTML<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hangul Word Processor file (.hwp)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rich text format (.rtf)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plain text (.txt)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Google Docs via Google Drive\u2122<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Adobe\u00ae PDF<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microsoft PowerPoint\u00ae (.pptx, .ppt, .ppsx, and .pps)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microsoft Excel\u00ae (.xls and .xlsx)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NB:&nbsp;If you are using an unsupported word processor, you may need to save your plain text file&nbsp;as .txt or .rtf in order to upload to Turnitin.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note the following:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If submitting via Google Drive\u2122, third party cookies must be allowed in your browser,&nbsp;otherwise any attempts to sign into Google to upload from Google Drive will fail. Note that Google Drive functionality is not supported with IE8 or below.&nbsp;Do not upload Google Doc (.gdoc) files directly to&nbsp;Turnitin. A .gdoc&nbsp;file does not store the document, but contains a reference to it online in Google Docs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is possible to submit PowerPoint\u00ae files through Turnitin.com, TurnitinUK.com, Turnitin Basic integrations, newer versions of the Turnitin Direct integrations, and LTI compliant integrations only.&nbsp;Turnitin converts the PowerPoint\u00ae slide deck into a static PDF, leaving all text and images in their original format but leaving out features such as presenter notes, embedded video, and animations.&nbsp;Text with visual effects is not supported, and it is recommended that any visual effects such as shadows and 3D be removed prior to submitting to Turnitin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turnitin&nbsp;will not accept PDF image files, forms, or portfolios, files that do not contain&nbsp;highlightable&nbsp;text (e.g. a scanned file \u2013 usually an image), documents containing multiple files or files created with software other than Adobe Acrobat\u00ae.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The version of the file that can be viewed in the Document Viewer will look the same as it would if the Excel file had been saved as a PDF and submitted to Turnitin. We highly recommend that users pay attention to the image preview provided in the single file submission to verify that the file is presented in an acceptable manner. &nbsp;Users can adjust the way the file looks by editing the page setup and print area settings for the file, prior to saving and submitting it to Turnitin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Turnitin will&nbsp;not&nbsp;accept the following to generate Originality Reports:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Password protected files<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microsoft\u00ae Works (.wps) files<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microsoft Word 2007 macros-enabled .docm files<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>OpenOffice Text (.odt) files created and downloaded from Google Docs online<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Document (.doc) files created using OpenOffice (these are not 100% equivalent to Microsoft Word)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apple Pages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spreadsheets created outside of Microsoft Excel (i.e. .ods)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Text with visual effects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tip<\/strong>: When converting a file to a new file format, users should rename their&nbsp;file with a name other than that of the original file.
